The third nomination was a charm for Pier 1 Imports, which won this year's Award for Outstanding Corporation from the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Pier 1 CEO Marvin Girouard, cause branding specialist Joy Rich, benefits director Melisa Caston, and Tasa Anderson and Beth Reynolds of the community relations department accepted the honor earlier this month at an association convention in Atlanta.
The company was nominated, for the third straight year, by the Fort Worth Metro Chapter of AFP Texas, for its work with UNICEF at the international level, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at the national level and Cancer Care Services at the local level."

Last week I attended the Association of Fundraising Professionals conference in Atlanta Georgia. I've been too busy since then to post much more commentary on it, but I'd like to include some of my notes from a class I was able to attend parts of and which I thought was particularly useful.
The first session I want to mention was 'How to raise big bucks with e-mail' which was a presentation by Nick Allen of DonorDigital"

Today was the first day of the Association of Fundraising Professionals conference in Atlanta Georgia. The conference has been very good so far from what I can tell, although I haven't made it out of the exhibitor hall. There was one class I wanted to check out, but I've had the pleasant problem of being too busy at the booth to leave for that long. There are a couple courses on Monday directly related to online fundraising that I plan to make time for however. "

Retired pilot F. Terry Stent might not have coined the phrase, “There’s no I in team,” but he exudes it.
The longtime philanthropist from Atlanta is the 2006 recipient of the Ketchum Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser, presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
“It’s really a team effort, I’m just a point person. The honor belongs to a much larger team,” Stent said. “Obviously, fundraising involves many different people all working in the same direction to make it happen. In a very real sense, I feel like this honor really -- while I’m very appreciative of it -- should reflect not only on what I’ve done but on the team to make it happen. It takes a lot of people to get it done.”"

The increasing difficulty of raising operating funds is resulting in a program-driven environment where it’s easy for nonprofits to veer off their mission. Foundations need to understand the importance of helping provide nonprofits with stable operating funds.
Those were among the comments made by actress Jane Fonda Sunday afternoon during the opening plenary speech at the Association of Fundraising Professionals’43rd Annual Conference on Fundraising in Atlanta.
With those operating funds, charities need to move from providing services that are not safety nets but, rather, “trampolines” and “ladders,”
out of poverty, Fonda added."
